Policy Brief Series #3: What does the EU Nature Restoration Regulation mean for forestry?

Forests are among Europe's most valuable ecosystems, providing habitat for countless species, storing carbon, regulating water and supporting human well-being. Yet they are increasingly threatened by intensive management, climate change, droughts, pests and wildfires. The third publication in our Policy Brief Series examines how the EU Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) can help restore forest ecosystems while strengthening their resilience to future environmental challenges.

The brief explains the Regulation's restoration requirements for forests, including biodiversity indicators such as forest birds, deadwood, uneven-aged forest structure, connectivity and soil organic carbon.
