Nature Restoration Regulation: Eight New Policy Briefs to Support Implementation

Biodiversa+ has released a new series of eight Policy Briefs translating a decade of research and recommendations on ecosystem restoration into practical, phased guidance tied directly to the articles of the EU Nature Restoration Regulation (NRR) and the requirements of the National Restoration Plans (NRPs).

As EU Member States will submit their draft NRPs to the European Commission by 1 September, the NRR is entering a critical phase.

Drawing on the latest results from BiodivRestore research projects and the BiodivRestore Knowledge Hub group of experts, the briefs provide recommendations for policymakers working on the NRPs.

Science is ready. Are Member States?

The briefs highlight:

• How forest, marine, urban water and freshwater ecosystems need to be restored at scale and connected.

• How enabling conditions, such as financing, seed supply, biosecure nursery production and zoonotic disease prevention are decisive.

• That Nature Restoration's benefits go beyond biodiversity.

A common message runs through the series: restoration only works if it's planned as a connected, interdependent system, not as a series of isolated fixes.
