Restoring nature and furniture - a video recount of our recent event

2025.07.28

The Centre for Ecological Research has run a number of 'Kert a Köbön' events in the past few years. The title translates directly to "Garden to the power of three" to indicate that these events are a melting pot of three realms: garden-world, ecology and botany. More specifically: they are the perfect place for people to enjoy the beauty of the Hungarian National Botanical Garden while engaging in exciting games and discussions co-organised by ecologists and botanists.

We are delighted to share with you a video that encapsulates the essence of the most recent 'Kert a Köbön' event, the scientific hostess of which was our group leader, Melinda Halassy. The event's theme circled around restoration, but participants gained knowledge and experiences in so much more than just that: there were over 10 groups of scientists scattered in the Botanical Garden showcasing their work through exciting games and activities, people could choose from a variety of natural crafts, and everyone enjoyed warm Latin-American beats as a close to the day.

Restoration was also approached through different angles: to engage the artist in all of us, we ran a community photo competition themed "Back to nature" with an outdoor exhibition organized of the best works of art. Participants enjoyed a very special photo tour guided by researchers and the head of the Botanical Garden, elaborating on the different aspects of nature depicted in each photo. This was followed by a discussion with a Árpád Rostás, a renowned furniture restorer, Péter Ódor, forest ecologist, and Melinda Halassy, restoration ecologists, exploring the likeness of restoring different subjects...

We hope you will enjoy the video as much as we enjoyed organizing the event:
