Horizon Europe funds for nature restoration

On 14 May, the Commission adopted the Horizon Europe Work Programme 2025.
The Work Programme is divided to different thematic clusters, each focusing on a specific area like health, digital, climate, etc. 'Cluster 6' focusses on Food, Bioeconomy, Natural Resources, Agriculture and Environment, offering support to understand and address the main drivers of biodiversity loss, developing innovative methods for biodiversity protection and restoration, and helping develop new biodiversity friendly practices in agriculture, forestry and aquaculture.
In each cluster, the funding calls are divided into different thematic areas, called 'Destinations', that outline the desired impact and outcomes of the funded research and innovation. Destinations within Cluster 6 focus on, just to name a few, biodiversity and ecosystem services, climate action, pollution reduction, circular economy and better food systems. Cluster 6's Destination 1, 'Biodiversity and ecosystem services', contains 12 topics against which proposals are invited, many of which strongly relate to actions needed for the implementation of the Nature Restoration Regulation - for example, "Supporting the implementation of nature restoration measures for sustainable farming systems", or "Assessing and modeling the socio-economic impacts of nature restoration".
